The Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre has notched up its biggest year ever for industry awards, as it prepares to celebrate 25 years of successful event delivery in 2013. The leading venue won 14 awards over the 2011/12 financial year, surpassing its previous high of 13. The accolades reflect the Centre’s achievements across a wide range of key areas from technical to environmental. Centre Chief Executive Ton van Amerongen said the wins were very gratifying as they recognised the professionalism and skill of the Centre’s team. “It is wonderful to see their efforts acknowledged both internationally and locally, particularly in our key services of venue management, food and beverage and creative technical production,” Mr van Amerongen said. “Each and every member of our team should take pride in their contribution to make us not only a world-class venue but a world-leading one,” he said. Mr van Amerongen said it was also very satisfying to see the ongoing recognition of the Centre’s environmental program, which has won a national award for Best Green Initiative for four consecutive years. He said the venue was off to a strong start in 2012/13, its 25th year of operation, having just won the prestigious International Special Events Society (ISES) Esprit Award for Best Event Design and Décor.
