The Future of Tourism on the Sunshine Coast

Friday, 31 August 2012

Sunshine Coast Destination in partnership with Sunshine Coast Council will host a Sunshine Coast Tourism Industry Operators Forum on 10 September at Lake Kawana Community Centre.

Modelled on the recently held state tourism forum, Destination Q, the day will feature leading tourism speakers and workshops. The purpose of the forum is to encourage a commitment from a range of tourism industry partners and Government to collaborate on building resilience to ensure a sustainable future for tourism.

Sunshine Coast Destination CEO Steve Cooper said tourism businesses and organisations from across the region have been invited to share their views on key issues facing tourism.

“By working together, Sunshine Coast Destination, the Council, industry leaders and operators can put the Sunshine Coast front of mind as a leading tourism destination.

“We want to create opportunities for the industry with outcomes on the day leading the future direction and planning of tourism on the Sunshine Coast,” said Mr Cooper.

“I was fortunate to attend the Destination Q conference in Cairns earlier this year; it was informative and helpful,” Sunshine Coast Mayor Mark Jamieson said.

“I am looking forward to this forum as it will bring together some of the Coast’s best minds to provide solutions to our tourism industry challenges.

“Tourism is one of our cornerstone economic drivers here and must be part of our economic sustainability engine for the future.”
