The new 4.5-star Mercure Gladstone welcomes the news QantasLink will fly direct from Sydney to Gladstone as of March 2013 as business to Central Queensland continues to grow exponentially.
Since opening last month (August 2012), the new build Mercure Gladstone hotel which sits alongside the Yaralla Sports Club has been close to capacity Monday to Friday, with weekend traffic steadily on the rise.
General Manager of Mercure Gladstone, Gavin Hocking, says the number of mining, engineering and construction works happening in town is huge and it reflects on how well a number of local businesses are doing in the region.
“Even in soft opening phase, the hotel was virtually full Monday to Friday with guests ranging from top industry executives to surveyors and those in town for general business. The hotel is very well supported by some of the world’s largest resource companies and we have guests flying in from all of the major capital cities, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth.
“With the influx of people coming to Gladstone, housing shortage is a real problem. The hotel has almost become a home away from home for many workers as companies try to find suitable housing for their employees, and so far we’ve been receiving wonderful feedback – the free wifi being a big winner.
“Gladstone as a whole is booming and population levels are expected to dramatically increase over the next five years. The median house price is predicted to hit the $900,000 mark within a few years, so it really goes to show there is a lot happening.
“News of QantasLink commencing flights between Sydney and Gladstone is very encouraging for the town and the hotel, and as far as we see it, it couldn’t come soon enough!”
Featuring 60-guestrooms, the new Mercure Gladstone boasts state-of-the-art leisure, meeting and dining facilities and is primarily tailored to suit the business traveller. Located just minutes from Gladstone CBD, the contemporary hotel features four different room types and come with queen size beds, separate ensuites, work desks and complimentary WiFi access.
Mercure Gladstone guests are given access to Yaralla Sports Club’s extensive fitness facilities and all guests receive complimentary airport transfers. For those looking to hit the fairways during down time, guests of the hotel can tee off from any one of Gladstone’s three 18-hole golf courses.
