Company Profile
LAN is the leading airline from Australia to South America, offering daily one stop flights from Sydney to Santiago, Chile, and onward service to more than 50 destinations throughout Latin America.
The airline - which this year celebrates its 80th birthday - continues to evolve as a quality carrier on the world stage, winning the title of "Best Airline in South America" in the 2008 Skytrax World Airline Awards, and more recently being named by the influential economic journal Euromoney as the best managed company in South America, and by the global financial group Accenture as a great example of a forward thinking company in the new era of "Multipolar Business", combining the best business practices from around the world.
A member of the oneworld global airline alliance, LAN Chile and fellow LAN family carriers LAN Argentina and LAN Peru - together with LAN Ecuador and LAN Express - offer a comprehensive and growing network of destinations not only to, within and between 10 nations of Latin America, but beyond to Central and North America, the Pacific and Europe.
Passengers from throughout Australia can connect with LAN flights in Sydney or Auckland, and can use the popular LAN South America Airpass to explore Latin America, including major cities and renowned attractions such as the Inca ruins in Machu Picchu, Peru; Iguassu Falls on the border of Brazil and Argentina; and the spectacular Patagonian region of Chile.
Connections are also available to Mexico, USA, Canada and Europe, and from Santiago to Tahiti, via the Chilean Territory of Easter Island. And the carrier's reach spreads even further with partnerships including a comprehensive code share arrangement with the Brazilian carrier TAM.
Passengers flying LAN can earn and redeem mileage points not only through the airline's loyalty programme, LANPASS, but through Qantas Frequent Flyer and the loyalty programmes of other oneworld airlines.
Internationally, LAN continues to develop its long haul inflight product, introducing in 2009 its new Premium Business and Economy Class cabins on the Airbus A340-300 aircraft used to operate flights from Australia and New Zealand to Latin America, and beyond to Europe.
Within Latin America, the airline operates a fleet of modern Airbus A320-family single-aisle twinjets, while on key international routes in the region, and beyond, LAN flies dual class Boeing 767-300 aircraft, again with the new Premium Business and Economy Class cabins.
For the future, LAN has ordered 32 next generation Boeing 787 Dreamliners, to expand significantly its long haul route network and market frequencies from 2012. In addition, LAN's airfreight division, LANCargo, operates a fleet of nine Boeing 767 freighters, and this year will introduce the first two of four Boeing 777 freighter aircraft.
LAN's regional office for Australia, New Zealand and Asia is in Sydney, with sales offices established elsewhere in Australia, New Zealand and Asia to cover the Asia Pacific region. As well, LAN Cargo has now established an office in Sydney to manage the growing demand for air freight between Australia and Latin America. For more information, visit www.lan.com
