Queensland rail fares slashed after airlines drop capacity

Wednesday, 9 July 2008

Rail may become a better travel option when headed towards the top end, as QR slashes some fares by 40%, at the same time when airlines are cutting capacity.

The special offer, which starts next week runs until the end of August, and offers discounts of up to 40% on all Tilt Train services and The Sunlander departures from Brisbane to the Whitsunday Coast.

“QR has reacted to this opportunity by reducing its standard fare structure to assist local residents and tourists who are planning to travel to the Whitsunday Coast,” said Paul Scurrah, QR Passenger Executive GM.

“The discounted train fares are the perfect opportunity for travellers planning to visit the Whitsundays region for the weekend or for an extended holiday.”

Discount fares start from $99 for a Brisbane–Proserpine leg in The Sunlander Economy, to $149 for a sector in a Tilt Train Business Class.

“Passengers can sit back, relax, and watch Queensland’s best scenery pass them by – while the friendly QR Traveltrain staff do the rest for them,” said Mr Scurrah.

QR coordinates with Trainlink bus connections to ferry passengers between Proserpine and Airlie Beach.
