Rail the new way to explore Ireland

Thursday, 20 November 2008

Jim Deegan, Managing Director, Railtours Ireland

Touring Ireland by rail has become one of the most popular forms of travelling across the vast country and with a new London to Dublin tour, Railtours Ireland is hoping to encourage even more visitors to choose this eco-friendly option.

Railtours Ireland Managing Director, Jim Deegan, speaking exclusively to e-Travel Blackboard during Tourism Ireland’s Trade Mission Downunder said the company has successfully transported 200,000 passengers across Ireland, of which 25,000 travelled this year alone.

Operating for over 10 years across Ireland, the new tour from London’s Euston station on new Virgin trains operates every weekday at 9am arriving in Dublin city at 6pm.

Travelling via the heart of England and along North Wales Coast to Holyhead, passengers then have a two hour break to enjoy lunch before boarding the Stena Line HSS to travel across the Irish sea to Dun Laoghaire and the adjacent Dart to Dublin city centre.

Railtours Ireland are offering a two nights in a 3 star hotel accommodation and a further option of adding any of its tours departing from Dublin, which could span from a half-day tour to six days.

“This exciting new tour option from London is designed to tap into one of the world’s great tourism melting pots with 16 million overseas tourists with an annual spend of 8.7 billion Pounds – we hope to encourage some to consider an eco-friendly short break to Ireland,” Mr Deegan said.

The company is Irish Rail’s largest single passenger customer and offers day tours to some of Ireland’s most iconic sites such as Blarney Castle, The Cliffs of Moher and the Giants Causeway.

Tours can be booked via the website and is commissionable to travel agents.
