Gold Coast airport still plugging along
Welcoming its first Jetstar international flight to Tokyo earlier in the month, Gold Coast Airport looks back at a year which saw great expansion into Asia. Coolangatta Airport has been the success story for Australia’s “low cost airports” and now offers services from Tiger, AirAsia X and Jetstar to international destinations in Asia. Traffic figures for the year remain good, with record growth figures seen throughout the year, where the only negative was the withdrawal of Norfolk Air services. “All the new services are fantastic, however the daily services to Japan are perhaps the most significant as it opens up a new market for the Gold Coast and Northern Rivers,” said Paul Donovan, Gold Coast Airport COO, to a local paper. “Asia remains a key market for the Gold Coast.” At the end of the third quarter, Coolangatta Airport saw 364,623 passengers pass through its gates, a 6.63% growth rate compared to the previous year. The growth was partly attributed then to a 43% increase in international traffic. |
