Hurun Report Honours Shanghai’s Best Presidential Suites & Executive Club Lounges

Friday, 26 June 2009

Hurun Report, renowned for its annual ‘China Rich List’ of tycoons, hosted Shanghai's Best Presidential Suites Awards with 200 VIP guests drawn from the luxury travel sector, the diplomatic sector, media, entrepreneurs and celebrities. The awards ceremony was held on 15 June, timed to coincide with the opening of the Asia Luxury Travel Market, the region’s leading showcase for the luxury travel industry, where Hurun Report is an Official Media Partner for the third year running.

"Before now China's luxury consumers have had little idea of Shanghai's top suites and executive club lounges, despite the fact that hotels spend so much money on them," says Rupert Hoogewerf, founder and chairman of Hurun Report. "We created a scorecard to assess and rank the top Presidential Suites and Executive Club Lounges, many of which are truly outstanding."

Among 16 award winners, Pudong Shanghai Shangri-La was honoured for ‘Best River View’, Park Hyatt Shanghai for ‘Most Advanced Technology’ and The Portman Ritz-Carlton for ‘Best Oriental Style’.

Renaissance Shanghai Yuyuan was singled out for ‘Most Art Work’, Four Seasons for ‘Best Royal Living Style’, Hyatt on The Bund for ‘Most Panoramic View’, Intercontinental Shanghai Pudong for ‘Best Classic Chinese Style’ and Le Royal Meridien for ‘Best City View’.

‘Most Modern Style’ was attributed to The Longemont, ‘Best Luxury Bathroom’ to Sofitel Sheshan Resort, ‘Best Art Deco Style’ to Grand Hyatt, ‘Best New York Style’ to St Regis, ‘Best Minimalist Style’ to Radisson Hotel Pudong Century Park and ‘Best View of Nature’ to Le Meridien Sheshan.

Nominated ‘Best Executive Club Lounges’ were Hilton Shanghai and Swissotel Grand Shanghai, along with ten of the presidential suite winners: Shangri-La, Park Hyatt, Portman Ritz-Carlton, Renaissance, Hyatt on The Bund, Le Royal Meridien, Sofitel Sheshan, Grand Hyatt, St Regis and Radisson.

The prestigious ceremony was attended by the elite of the Shanghai luxury hotel industry and some of China’s richest entrepreneurs. Also among more than 200 guests were the Consul-Generals of South Africa, Malaysia and Mexico, Vika Khumalo of Yuan Yue of Horizon Research Consultancy Group, Zhi Xiong chairman of Shanghai Porsche Owners and Liang Yan of Star River.

The awards ceremony included entertainment by superstar singer Lin Bao and famous contemporary dancer Li Lingxi. Guests were also treated to a fashion show by Simon Ma of Ma Design.

A lucky draw included prizes of two nights at The Mandarin Oriental Hotel Sanya worth 69,000RMB, a Tahiti package valued at 80,000RMB and prized Runyan tea worth 15,000RMB.

Hurun Report timed the event to coincide with ALTM because the travel mart brings together the Asia Pacific’s most important travel buyers with the world’s leading luxury tourism destinations.

“We are very proud to be involved with the luxury travel industry as we know that this a fast growing market as China becomes wealthier,” said Rupert Hoogewerf. “Nobody knows China’s richest better than us, so it’s important to understand their luxury needs. China is one of the world’s fastest-growing markets for luxury goods, yet accounts for less than two per cent of the luxury travel market – suggesting huge potential for growth.”

In June and November, Hurun Report further explores the market with summer and winter editions of ‘Ultimate Travel Experiences’, targeted at high-end Chinese leisure travellers planning their summer holidays and Chinese New Year breaks. Articles focus on the most creative luxury travel experiences, together with latest news and developments in the world of travel, serving as a vital link between readers and international luxury travel suppliers.
