On Wednesday, 7th October an airplane of LOT Polish Arlines, with a picture promoting Krakow and Malopolska, took off for a special flight on the route Krakow - Rome. The tail of Embraer 170 was decorated with a fragment of the painting by Leonardo da Vinci "Lady with an Ermine" from the collection of Czartoryski Museum in Krakow.
"Lady with an Ermine" is the only da Vinci's painting in Poland and at the same time one of the most exceptional and famous symbols of Krakow.
The airplane was blessed by His Excellency, Cardinal Franciszek Macharski who emphasised the importance of direct plane connection between Krakow and the capital city of Italy and the Holy See. Sebastian Mikosz, the president of LOT Polish Airlines, Jan Pamula, president of Krakow Airport, Kazimierz Bujakowski, deputy mayor of Krakow and Stanislaw Sorys, the deputy province governor were also present at the ceremony.
Special painting on LOT's Embraer is a result of a fruitful cooperation between LOT Polish Airlines and Balice Krakow Airport and at the same time an element of a program promoting plane connections from Krakow Airport.
I am glad that after a few years of break we have managed to resume the Krakow - Rome plane connection. Such return emphasises a long-lasting tradition and a strong relationship between Krakow and the Eternal City, in particular because of the pontificate of John Paul II - said Sebastian Mikosz, president of LOT Polish Airlines. - I hope that the plane connection between Krakow and Rome will be beneficial not only to LOT Polish Airlines but also, with the help of the special painting on the Embraer, it will contribute to global promotion of Krakow and Malopolska.
Krakow's Embraer joined other "gems" among the airplanes of LOT Polish Airlines. In the fleet of the Polish carrier there is already the Golden Boeing 737, the picture on which commemorates 20 years of independent Poland and Embraer 175 - the 600th e-jet manufactured by a Brazilian producer, on the fuselage of which there is the number "600" in red colour. |
