The German National Tourist Board (GNTB) strongly promoted barrier free travel to Germany during this year’s Paralympics and the focus was largely on a new documentary, “GOLD- U Can Do More Than U Think”, which followed three inspirational athletes on their way to the recent 2012 Paralympic Games. Australian Paralympic bronze medallist Kurt Fearnley is in the spotlight, alongside German swimmer Kirsten Bruhn and Kenyan Henry Wanyoike, who is one of the world’s fastest blind marathon runners.

“We want to present Germany as a barrier free, open minded and attractive country,” says Petra Hedorfer, CEO of the GNTB.

The GNTB’s target groups for barrier-free travel range from families with children, older travellers and people whose mobility is temporarily restricted – such as patients in rehabilitation – to people with physical and mental disabilities.

The GOLD documentary, which was initiated by the German Social Accident Insurance association (DGUV) and made by Parapictures Film Production, is due to premiere in Germany in Spring 2013.
